Constructed in 2001 this home was designed by architect Michael Verdouw. 519A Huon Road is a three bedroom, two bathroom home with undercover parking set on a 550m2 allotment. The home has been designed sympathetic to is natural surrounding environment with the flow of the descending levels and a colour scheme mimicking the vista. The lounge room and deck provide views of the Organ Pipes, Knocklofty and a glimpse of the Derwent River.
The Waterworks Reserve is a 15 minute walk through the bush and you can ride straight onto the Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. This home is less than a 10 minute drive from the city centre.
The house takes into account the surrounds with strategically placed glazing to balance privacy, light and passive solar gain using the all-day sun – open and light-filled, yet built for seclusion and privacy. High ceilings in the living spaces create a sense of volume and simplicity. The home has solid Tasmanian oak timber floors throughout living, dining, hallway and bathrooms.
The master suite is accessed by a bespoke timber staircase. This suite occupies the entire first floor with walk-in robe, en-suite bathroom and private north facing deck. The floorplan of this home allows for shared living spaces and separation when required.
519A Huon Road has a manageable outdoor area with space to grow plants, vegetables and/or an ideal space for a pet. The garden also provides access to a substantial under house workshop area in addition to the storage room below the car port.
Passive solar features include a dark polished concrete floor in the living and large windows to let in the solar gain. A ducted reverse cycle heat pump updated in April 2021 to the living and master bedroom and radiant ceiling heat in the living compliment the passive solar design.
Concept plans for an extension to the living space by 1+2 Architecture are available.
